In what appears to be an ongoing war of words (but not limited to statements of fact), a number of organizations affiliated with the Church of Scientology have been unmasked. One, Narconon, is the Church's drug rehabilitation affiliate which runs unregulated clinics (with no licensed staff of any kind, no R.N.s, M.D.s, etc) claiming to offer treatment to addicts in recovery. One clinic in Newport Beach was found to be housing patients in large numbers (and in non-residential premises) as well as having staff members who were paid close to nothing. The real rub is that Narconon, using district funds, sends speakers to schools to warn children of the dangers of drugs without district administrators' knowledge of the Church's affiliation and the fact that its ulterior motive is to recruit members to the Church.

The disingenously named Citizens Commision for Human Rights(CCHR) is a rabid Church offshoot whose sole purpose is to attack and discredit psychiatry, notably prescription medications for mental disorders like ADHD, depression, etc. Ironically, L Ron Hubbard, the founder (ie entrepreneur) of the Church had a lifelong history of pathological lying, divorce, criminal behavior, and paranoid psychosis, all the things he supposedly eschewed.

CCHR makes T-shirts and bumper stickers with sayings like "Psychiatry Kills".

One has only to go to www.xenu.net to get the whole story. It seems that the freedom of speech (and the freedom to blog) will be the ultimate demise of the Church as its real motives - profiteering, indoctrination, and mind control are revealed. Amen.
