What is the FBI "dress code" so to speak? In movies they always wear dark suits and ties. Is this accurate? What about female agents?
Detective gave this response on 3/19/2000:
For many of the early years FBI Agents were mandated to wear dark suits, dark ties, and even regulation straw hats. However, from the 60s-70s forward, they have relaxed their policies and now allow them to wear "professional attire" regardless of colors. I personally know many FBI agents and they wear a variety of busines suits, jackets, dress shirts, etc., all colors and styles. Same thing goes for female agents. What you typcially see in the corporate business world is what they wear almost daily. Now occasionally they will "dress down" especially after operations and wear T-shirts and jeans. However even for court testimony as long as they are in nice attire that reflects favorably upon the FBI in general, this is all that matters.
Now in TV and movies many FBI agents are shown in a dark suits, white shirts, and dark ties to enhance the "mystic" of the story characters a little.
Anyway, hope this helps and take care.
