There is occasionally a short debate on whether or not Scientology's Guardian's Office (GO) was abolished or simply renamed the Office of Special Affairs (OSA).

The events that led to and resulted in the abolishment/renaming are dramatic and of great import but too complex for this post. (Perhaps some of us who were there will write them up one day.) But here is a simple way to cut through all of it for the time being.

The GO was Scientology's Department 20. The OSA is the current Dept 20. Talk Dept 20 and avoid the debate if it was abolished or simply renamed. Dept 20 was not abolished. It was there and is still there with the same functions as before.
