Subject: Robert Vaughn Young

I only had the privilege of communicating with RVY a few times by email, but I was (and still am) an avid reader of his work. He had a wonderful mind, and superb writing skills. Many of his posts left me with my face hanging open in sheer awe at his talent. Robert Vaughn Young was a shifter of my newbie paradigm regarding Scientologists. I thought, as so many initially do, that Scientologists had to be weak, gullible suckers in search of someone or something to tell them what to do and how things are. We see posts along those lines on a regular basis.

Robert Vaughn Young was a brilliant man, and he had been a Scientologist for many years, who rose high in the ranks. Nobody could read his work and suggest that Scientologists are stupid, weak people. While it's true that the ones we get posting to ARS appear to be a bunch of robotic parrots, I would bet that many of them would be bright, funny people if they could shake the cult programming.

There is no comparison between the work he left and Hubbard's ridiculous, drug-induced fantasies. Mr. Young's work is not exclusive to Scientology, and it will continue to be valued.

The man Young once revered will eventually become an obscure relic of the '50s, read only in sociology classes on aberrant group behavior.
