Several years ago, I spoke at the Investigative Reporters and Editors Association annual convention on the difficulty of writing against cults. Throughout the weekend conference, I was followed and continually harassed by a Scientologist, who shouted while I was on the dais speaking about Scientology, and followed me everywhere, shouting insults, etc.

The Scientologist was Robert Vaughan Young.

Years later, when I came to a.r.s., Bob apologized profusely to me for his egregious behavior when he was a Scientologist, and we became good e-mail buddies. He was a brilliant writer and a caring and compassion human being. He will be missed.
