But I DO hold that the author of the Gospel of John was ALSO the writer of the three epistles of John, and that their internal consistency strongly suggest it was written by an eyewitness, an apostle, very familiar with Jerusalem at the time and obviously correcting and expanding on some of the Synoptic accounts.

Hector Plasmic replied:

Of course, the scholars dispute you. It would seem that the gospel of John was written by "John the Elder," a follower of John the Apostle, some years after [Jesus], Peter and Paul were dust -- years after the other gospels, in fact. The style of the gospel and the epistles is indeed similar and seems to point to common authorship. It is that link that gives us our best clue to actual authorship:

As I stated, you don't have one undisputed eyewitness account. What you appear to have is hearsay _at best_. You, Al, have claimed that your "eyewitness testimony" would stand up in court. But, as a matter of fact, you don't appear to _have_ any eyewitness testimony. Doesn't your religion say something about it not being nice to lie, little fundy? :-)

Now, you're not going to make like Mikey and miss the fact that the dispute we're having, quoting various authorities with differing opinions, is actually _proving_ my point and _debunking_ you, are you?
