Labugana asked this question on 3/21/2000:
In the last few years I have noticed that men have become abusive towards women. It is not only in one race but in all. What is the explanation of this behavior?
Phoenixguy2000 gave this response on 4/14/2000:
I don't think men abusing women has really become any greater problem than it has been in the past. This is another one of those subjects that has "come out of the closet", so to speak. Several years ago, this wasn't a subject that women talked about. Also, there were no resources for women, no domestic violence programs to speak of, and, with most women in the home instead of working, there was no escape for women, so, often, they ended up staying in abusive relationships because they felt they had no other choice. I do think that today's stressful, complicated, hectic day to day life has led an increase in the frequency of abuse. There are far more stressors in today's world than there was even 20, 30 years ago. But keep in mind, that for every abusive male, there are far more decent, caring, upstanding men out there. I think we are so used to hearding about all of the bad things going on out there, that we seldom think about the good things.
