Evening Xperts,I was just wondering, it appears to me that there seems to be a large segment of the people who ask us questions are women with abusive boyfriends or husbands. My question is why do women insist in staying in abusive enviroments. My job during the day is working in a Salvation Army Shelter as the director of security with A daily flow of 1100 clients, it boggles my mind when i watch these women get tormented by their mates, Yet they stay and take it

Hello!
I am a woman who was a victim of abuse. When I was a kid I was verbally and physically abused by my parents...I used to stand in front of the mirror and count the new bruises on my rear, legs, and back. My mother hit me with whatever she could get her hands on...power cords, brooms, golf clubs, ect...So I started life with a very poor self esteem. Women tend to look for men, subconciously, who treat them like their father did. The brain washing goes on...you are made to feel like you deserve what you get, that you aren't worthy, that you could never have it better than you do with him, and finally when actually leaving becomes a real issue, you and everyone and everything that you know and love becomes threatened with extreme violence. Every single day women are murdered by their husbands and boyfriends. Protection, true protection, is a myth...and we know it.
