For many years, there was a fued between the Hatfield's & McCoy families beginning in the early 1860's through 1891 when the fued finally came to an end. Do you know Why or How it came to an end.
Brandie gave this response on 3/24/2000:
The Hatfield and McCoy fued is said to have begun in 1863 over a land dispute. In 1865 the first death as a result of the fued was reported, there was no prosecution In 1878 Randolph McCoy accuses Floyd Hatfield of stealing his pig. Later in court Hatfield wins. In 1880 Rosanna McCoy falls in love with Jonse Hatfield, and moves in the Hatfield cabin. Thus adding more fuel to the fire. In 1891 the fued inronically ends with another marriage of the Hatfield's & McCoy's. The fued between these families lasted 28 years, including the inital land fued. I hope this information is helpful to you.

Brandie,
I have received conflicting infomation on how long the feud lasted and how. Apparently it did not end due to the marriage but with "Devil Anse" finally moving his family away after 12 yrs of feuding. What do you think?
