I am studying human development and have heard about Bowlby but what is an attachment disorder and how is it treated?

I can give you a list of references if you like? It is a big subject and can be answered from a range of theoretical perspectives. Treatment can be psychoanalytical, Behavioural, Psychodynamic, Narrative - the list goes on. The key component to adult attachment disorders is the problem of intimacy, forming intimate relationships. DSMIV lists the types -is this also what you want to find out? Have you read Ainsworth and more recently Bartholomew K.? Get back to me if you want specifics.
