Is spanking a child Child Abuse?

Hi, This is my opinion so it shouldn't be taken into that much consideration. I think hitting a child or hurting a child in any shape form or way is considered child abuse. A child is an individual and by abusing him or her, their lines of respect are being tampered with.So what should a parent do? well grounding a child , or simply explain the reason why something was wrong,might be the "right" thing to do.
