Could you inform me about theories that best explain the phenomenon of domestic violence? Could you direct me to some good professional ariticles regarding the same? I am most interested in rural mental health, as it relates to domestic violence. Where do people go in lieu of professional mental health workers. What access to shelters do women/families have in rural areas? Do you have an idea's about developing a program to assist these families in rural areas? Many thanks.. I am writing a thesis to finish my grad program in marriage and family therapy. Thanks again.

I live and practice in a major metropolitan city so I am not knowledable about rural mental health. As far as resources...Lenore Walker has written many books and articles on D.V. and is considered the expert in the field. Also, this month's Social Work Journal has an excellent article on empowering battered women who choose to stay...Very interesting..Good luck with your project.
