Is there such a thing as an afterlife in Wicca? How does it, if it exists, compare to the views of Christians or Moslems? If it doesn't exist, what do Wiccans see as reason to live a good or fulfilling life?

Merry Meet Mydnyte,
Traditional Wiccan's believe that death is a transition to a higher "light" plain. I'm not a traditional "anything". I believe that death is not the end of a life, but the continuation of a spiritual journey that takes us to a higher plain to choose our re-birth. I believe in reincarnation. I think that the energy that propels our earthly body is an energy that always was, and always will be. I've said before that we're Spiritual beings having a human experience. It would be sad to think that this is all there is to "life". Where we are now is the place we've chosen to be at the moment. It's difficult to imagine the freedom of Spirit...the ability to be everywhere at the same time...the knowledge of the "All". To "be" the wind, the rain, the sun...to feel the freedom of flight...to know that you never have to experience pain or sadness because you are joy and light. Many Christians don't believe in an afterlife. They're convinced that death is sleep and they're waiting for the Messiah to come wake them up. They believe in heaven and hell...that you have the ability to "buy" your way to heaven with money or random good works. I think that no matter what religion you believe in, the Ultimate Power, God/Goddess, Jehovah, Buddah, Allah, or whatever your name for that Power is, the end result is the same. We move on after earthly death...we "graduate" to a higher plain of existance...we free the Spirit from the flesh. I know it's hard to imagine, because we think in human terms...we know only human experience...we have "earthbound" thoughts. If you meditate, you can catch a glimpse of the afterlife. You can experience the freedom of Spirit in flight. You can reassure yourself that your Spirit is endless and boundry free. We should live our lives to do our best...to harm none...to gather knowledge...to create a clean, safe environment...to honor the "Mother"(earth) in everything we do. If we do all those things, if we live our lives with good intent, if we contribute to our lives and others in a positive way, then we don't have to worry about an afterlife...we'll wake up free...in spirit after the death of our bodies, and we'll know that life goes on..in one way or another...on one plain or another and we'll experience the joy that "life" was meant to give us. Blessed Be...Stargazer
