I would like to ask what everyone thinks about some of the new TV shows and movies that feature "witches" and such. I like the show "Charmed" because it doesn't glorify the craft, and because it sticks pretty closely to the truth...for the most part. Please give me your feedback. Blessed Be

I have to admit, when i saw your question I thught of it as a great way to sound off about the misprotrayal of witches in our society. However I stoped and peeked at the other answers and found myself agreeing, mostly. The craft was hilarious and great for entertainment value. I found some of the ritual scenes and the connections made with the gods to be beutiful and touching. Especially the butterfly scene. We never know how the gods will reveal themselves to us. Since it was beautiful and peaceful, I identified well with it. I also appriciated the fact the the bad girls were punished in the end. After all, that with which they were playing is not a toy. I had to laugh when the main charactor was being chased witht the ritual knife. I have never met a witch who would intend physical harm with her athame! Since the woman playing the awful charactor is a witch herself, I was surprised she took the part. She played it well though. I just loved Practical Magic. It was the most realistic portrayal I have yet seen out of Hollywood. Except the end. There were other parts of course, but altogether I found it more or less realistic. I will not watch Charmed. I find crime fighting "heretitary" witches who fight demons and "Warlocks"(whose sole purpose is to suck the power from witches)absurd and unrealistic. Of the few times I have seen the show, never have I heard them mention the religeous aspects of this wonderful belief system. and, I think this show gives the impression that to be a witch, yuo must be born into a family and posess this magic book(yes I know grimores exist and are very nice to have) that will bestow amazing powers on you when you open it (only, of course, if your ancestors were witches) Childrens movies, books, and portrayals of the classic hag are dear to me. I surround myself with them as amusements and also a reminder of how society still views us. (I have a copy of Ronald Dahl's "The Witches" problebley one of the most frightening and horrible descriptions I have seen)One thing I can say for the current trend of witch movies and shows is that the charactors are much more "Aphrodite" than the "Morrigan"!!

Thanks for your feedback. I have to admit that I do like Charmed. I find it very entertaining. But, like you said, they focus more on the craft than the religion. Anyhow, thanks for your comments. Blessed Be.
