Hi,
"Skeleton Keys" have been in use since Roman times, around the first century BCE. Ever since they have had different symbolic meanings in different cultures.
The most common use for such a key as a talisman relates to doors and gateways... and opening them.
The Romans used skeleton keys as a symbol of Janus, the god of doorways. (He kept out unwanted energy from the home.) The Greeks used the keys as a symbol of the goddess Hecate, (she unlocked the mysteries of magic.)
An effective way to use a key as a talisman is to charge it with positive energy when you're looking to pass from an old situation and into a new one. A job change for instance, or initiation. Such a talisman can help you pass through a period of change more easily, because you symbolically possess the means of "unlocking" the secrets of new things!
Hopefully this basic background will be of use. If you need more practical assistance feel free to ask!
