My best recommendation, however, is to go to any major search engine and search for "The Burning Times." This will provide you with a basis of the persecution that Witches have dealt with on a historical basis as well as what we go through today.

For the question about what it is... I can only tell you that the term "Wicca" is derived from Gaelic and loosely means "Wise Ones." Any other questions, feel free to ask me.
