What is Wiccca in a nutshell?
FiliaLunae gave this response on 12/30/1999:
Wicca is an earth-based religion, based on the "Old Ways" (ancient practices) and modern spirituality. Wiccans believe and live by the Rede: "If it harms none, do what you will". They also believe in the law of Threefold (or sometimes Tenfold) return, ie you get back three times what you put out to the world, be it good or bad. Most Wiccans believe in reincarnation, many believe in a Summerlands type paradise, and many believe it can't be known what happens after death.
Wiccans believe in one creating force, which has God and Goddess aspects. The God and Goddess are further represented by various deities worshipped by people over time, such as Athena, Gaia, Odin, Pan, Brighid, Ishtar, et cetera.
Wiccans DO cast spells; however spells are more like strong prayers. They don't require "eye of newt and blood of lamb"; we would never harm animals, especially for a "selfish" purpose such as a magickal working. Candles, incense, herbs, stones, and other objects are often used to help focus.
Wiccans DON'T worship Satan; we don't even recognize such a diety.
We believe that there is no"one true path" to spirituality, so we odn't try to convert people.
For more info, I'd check out www.witchvox.com as a starting place. It is meant mainly for people who are already Pagan, but it has a LOT of great links and information.
Bright blessings, Filia
