"BATTLEFIELD EARTH" (PG-13): The year is 3000, the place is Earth - and John Travolta is the chunky, dreadlocked alien with bad teeth who enslaves humanity for his own gain. What he doesn't know is that one man is about to stand up to him . . .

Corey Mandel's script, based on L. Ron Hubbard's 1982 novel, sounds like a cheesy cross between "Planet of the Apes" and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." More intriguing is the fact that Hubbard is the founder of Scientology, and Travolta is one of the sect's biggest stars. If there is any lesson here for kids, it's this: Greed is bad. And, perhaps, given Travolta's prop teeth: See a dentist regularly.

Language: Some alien gobbledygook. Sex: Very little. Violence: Rats are eaten raw. Plus the usual bloody brawls, loss of limbs, decapitations and aerial flameouts. Audience: Teenage boys might get a kick out of the rat-eating scene. Otherwise, this movie is so bad it's almost camp.
