OhTheHumanity celebrates bad movies...

I have seen thousands of bad movies in my life, and I think I can easily say Battlefield Earth is one of the very worst by far. Much worse than Congo, much worse than The Haunting, much worse than Batman and Robin, which is closer in quality to the original Batman than to this "film". However, it was far more fun to watch than any of these. In a sick sort of way, I enjoyed it about as much as I did Gladiator, one of the best movies I've seen in years. You just can't believe what you are seeing on the screen. Several films are intentionally bad. They can be fun. Several more are unintentionally bad, but more often than not, they are unwatchable. Those ones I mentioned above spring to mind. Stuff like Entrapment. BE, on the other hand, is so vain, so stupid, so awful that I felt stoned after a while, just numbed by the sheer idiocy of the whole enterprise.
The Psychlos, the evil aliens, are the most laughably terrible creations in years. They all look flat out stupid, especially Travolta and Forest Whitaker, and their dialogue is some of the worst "evil" dialogue in history. Travolta, and the entire species, for that matter, punctuates every other line with long boisterous cackles, which me and my friends emulated for hours afterwards. They are crap, and may serve as insperation for my Halloween costume next year.
The Man Animals are just plain terrible too, though, with even worse dialogue. The direction is ridiculous, the action scenes incoherant and hilarious, and the plotting is completely, indescribably illogical. To the put of insanity. Whoever decided to spend 100 million or whatever on this is flat out the stupidest person working in Hollywood. Travolta, you have to figure, is pretty much f---ed now, as never has Kevin Costner come close to making a film this terrible. SEE THIS MOVIE! BRING FRIENDS! Believe me, no one will complain if you talk and laugh through the whole thing.
