1979 140 hp johnson outboard starts easily and runs great for for a few minutes and then dies as if the key were switched off. After it sits awhile it starts back up. Any ideas on which direction to troubleshoot? ignition? thanks, murphy

sounds like the ignition pack is bad.it gets hot and breaks down.when it cools off,it will start and run again. replace the pack and that should take care of the problem.
