My boat has twin V6 Alpha 1 counter rotating drives built in 1995. The remote control is a Quick Silver surface mount. The starboard side requires much more effort to move the throttle and set into gear. When the shift cable is diconnected at the power package the problem goes away, also the drive has the shift assist bar, when the shift cable is re attached without the shift assist, the problem also goes away. I've swapped the remote control for a new one to no avail, my dealer was good enough to take it back but they have no suggestions on what else to try.

sounds like a bad shift assist or a rusty cable.try wd-40 on it.
