I have a 1993 Mastercraft Maristar 225. Due to family responsibilities, I haven't been able to use it in almost two years. It has been sitting on the trailer with cover on since September 1998. What can I expect when I try to get it ready for the summer?

Assuming that you did not winterize the boat, you can probably expect the following: 1. Battery dead or low. 2. Fuel stale. 3. Carburetors gummed up. 4. Grease gummy.
None of these problems are serious and can be overcome with a minimum of effort. Before attempting to start the engine, I would do the following: 1. Charge the battery. 2. Have a supply of fresh fuel on hand. 3. Spray some carburetor cleaner in the throat of the carburetors. 4. Remove the spark plugs and spray a small amount of motor oil in the cylinders, to minimize any excessive wear or seizing of rings in the cylinder walls.
Other than these, I would not see any problem with the engine. You may have to pour a little gasoline in the carburetor in order to get it started initially. Once started, you should have no problem.
You will, of course, have to grease the trailer bearings. I would take it to a local service facility and have them remove the bearings and repack them. Very inexpensive and well worth the cost. Check all lights and electrical accessories. Some of the connections invariably corrode and prevent the accesories from working. Check the bilge and blower pumps. And of course, the trailer and boat registration expiration dates. While you are at it, check the expiration dates on your flares and fire extinguisher and the conditon of your life jackets. Good luck....Charlie....
