How come the clear windows don't last very long? My side windows are only 3 years old and they are turning yellow!

Dear Anonymous,
That is a very common problem. The durability of your clear windows depends on three factors
1) The quality of the clear, which comes in 3 different gauges. 20 gauge, 30 gauge and 40 gauge. The thinner the clear the quicker it will turn yellow. The 20 gauge will last for the shortest time and the 40 gauge will last the longest.
2) The sunlight falling on your windows will eventually turn them yellow. Therefore the way you use your windows will determine how long they last. Someone who has their windows off a lot will get more years out of them than someone who uses the windows constantly. You may notice that when you dock your boat the window that is on the sunlit side of the boat will age faster than the window in the shade.
3) If you clean your windows every three to four weeks during the boating season you will extend the life of your windows. Use only cleaners made for clear vinyl windows which you can get at a marine supply store.
