hslack asked this question on 5/8/2000:
I've heard the argument that States with "shall issue" laws concerning gun permits tend to have less violent crime than those which do not. - Is there any truth to this? - Which states have such laws? - When were these laws enacted?

Good Morning
Of all the states which have had the shall issue carry permit in effect long enough to have official statistics (5 years or more), yes it does lean quite noticeably in that direction. There has been a great deal of study in this which is available in many areas on the net. One of the most respected of these, is the Law Enforcement Alliance of America site, www.largo.org There are many states which have such laws, and all were enacted at different times. Unfortunately, I do not have all those particulars for each state, however some of the states with shall issue include, Arizona, Arkansas,Florida,Kentucky,Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas....this is not all inclusive by any means, it is only a representation. Each state has an official site and can give you particular information regarding that state.
Hope this has helped a little.
Sincerely, tcsmpsi
