why do people commit crimes?

Many crimes are commited strictly from GREED.Others, out of selfishness, revenge,or any number of reasons that the person may feel to be just cause. Alot of teens get the thrill of minor shoplifting, maybe to avenge a strict upbringing in their home...the "I'll show them syndrome". Many adults contribute their actions to uncontrolling emotional circumstances, normally being, under the influence of "something". Most crimes commited are simply from ignorance, lack of self respect, selfishness, jealousy & greediness, whether it was learned as a way of life or just by making the wrong decision. In my experience,I believe that the judicial system has turned into a business, rather than a way of punishment. Some people would risk another act knowing that it may give them freedom...such as shoot at a law officer after being caught in the act of something else...the system would most likely drop smaller charges to plea on larger charges. If a person was placed in a situation where he was headed to jail for armed violence,he is likely to fire at an officer, knowing that he may escape jail altogether. What does he have to lose?
