kcowan asked this question on 3/14/2000:
How does a private citizen gain legitimate access to various databases: DMV, criminal offenses, financial information, real estate, work history, etc.
No rush. Just interested.
Thanks Kathleen
Detective gave this response on 3/14/2000:
Hey Kathleen: Well there are a variety of ways but the easiest and less troublesome way is to contact a Private Investigations firm or Database service. There is no consistent way to do it yourself over the Internet as it does not contain the various databases necessary to accomplish any form of reliable check. The laws of information released by each State vary so drastically that "hundreds" have to be checked to do a proper job. DMV information is sometimes restricted by State law but most can be accessed by companies like us. Now criminal offenses, at least convictions, are public record and are maintained at the local county courthouse. Financial information can be also be gained through a review of property files, civil law suits, divorce settlements, etc., at local county courthouses. Bankruptcies can be found through the Federal courts system and provide a "ton" of information. Work history is tough to determine based on database searches alone. We often have to accomplish "old fashioned" Investigative techniques to really track that down correctly.
Anyway, hope this helps and if you have a specific need we can be contacted directly at: tacticsone@earthlink.net
Take care.
