Is a drunk driving conviction considered a felony in Massachusetts in reference to renewing your firearms license?
Detective gave this response on 2/28/2000:
If this was your first DWI conviction it was most likely not handled as a felony. Do you recall if your attorney said you could be facing over a year in jail for a maximum penalty? Also, check all of your court/arrest records as they should clearly state what level of misdeameanor or felony charge it was pursued under. Now renewing your firearm license is a different matter because you did not relate if it is a Federal Firearms License or a State license to carry permit. Which ever one you are concerned with, contact the agency responsible for issuing them and ask. I think you would have to have been convicted of a felony to be denied a FFL and I am not too sure about the concealed weapons permit.
Take care and good luck.
