"Las Vegas City Life"
Greetings.
I like reading "Las Vegas City Life:" it keeps me up-to-date with the city I once lived in and still care about. I attended SNVTC (Southern Nevada Vocational Technical Center) where I learned how to: navigate an aircraft with a plastic computer and a pencil; write a sonnet; bake a soufflé; get beat up by bullies and thugs; and jimmy the lock on the candy concession room's door. The benefits of this well-rounded education still serve me well, some 25 years later. Good education is one of the chief requirements for a democratic republic (such as the USA was supposed to be) to function properly.
Therefore I am rather irate at theocratic morons who do not know the difference between evolution (a fact) and evolutionary theory (which defines and describes the fact of evolution). I speak of "JOHN EDWARD MAHALO D'AURA" in the "letters" column of Thursday, December 09, 2004. Worse, such people refuse to accept the fact, after it is explained to them, that evolution and evolutionary theory are two totally different things. Thank Goddess for Joshua Ellis's article on that subject! Fat lot of good it did helping the rightards ("right-wing retard") understand--- but it is hoped that the article cleared up some people's confusion.
I put it this way: a recipe for how to make an apple pie (the theory) is completely different than the apple pie (the fact). One cannot "teach apple pie" and more than one can "teach evolution:" one can teach how an apple pie is made, and one can teach how evolution occured and occurs.
Evolution is a fact; evolutionary theory is not. Why is this so hard for some people (i.e., Creationists) to understand? While evolutionary theory is not a fact and never will be, it is so well and so often varified and supported by the evidence one would have to be a cave-dwelling knuckle-dragging need-a-breathing-coach Neanderthal to reject it as wrong.
This is the year 2004, not 1204. THE ENLIGHTENMENT HAS HAPPENED ALREADY: YOU RIGHTARDS GET OVER IT ALREADY!
