What is going on with same sex unions? Is the Chruch influences the law? Would appreciate your opinions.
Fr_Chuck gave this response on 3/25/2000:
the church, ??
but religious views not only Christian but Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Catholic and most moral ideas are guiding the legal system on this issue
The seperation of Church and state is for the Church'es protection that the state will not prohibit the churhes rights, but that is happening all the time
the state is not protected from the church, the church members make up the population and currently have the majority. Under the law that majority has the right to vote and make law and it is the majority that votes for the canidate that upholds its views. So it is the political system that uses the views of the majoity of citizens, who just hapen to have moral views.
The system is working the way it was designed

by the way, while the actual union is not close to being asepted, their does need to be legal contracts or something that would allow the partner rights. While most of ameria does not want to accept the "legal status of a gay marriage" it does not take away the need for rights in this and even non married men and women who live together to have some protection and right to benifits that are being denied both gay and non gay relationships
