What is going on with same sex unions? Is the Chruch influences the law? Would appreciate your opinions.

Same sex marriage is a continuation of the push for civil rights--equality under the law--that began with blacks and then spread to women, American Indians, and homosexuals. There may by other reasons for homosexuals to seek marriage with each other, but the main reason is legal. Married couples have legal privileges (and sometimes incur penalties)which homosexual couples who live together wish to have.
Churches have no official status in passing or preventing same sex marriages,Some churches, especially Christian fundamentalists, have use their ability sway public officials and public opinion to prevent legal recognition of same sex marriages. Those Christian Churches that oppose such marriages, think it would officialy condone homosexuality. They feel homosexuality is a sinful choice and that recognizing homosexual marriages would lead to an increase in homosexuality. They don't believe that homosexuality is nearly always a biological condition present at birth that the individual has to accept and live with.
