estriker asked this question on 5/17/2000:
I have two female friends ages 14 and 15, who are seeing a pyscologist and were NOT prescribed to an anti-depressant. I am not sure what kind of anti-depressant they are taking, but they take over 8 at a time to give them a high. I would like to know what the side effects are and how it could affect them at this amount. I am very worried about them. Could a type of mix with other drugs like alcohol, pot, or an extreme amount of Robotussin be fatal?

You need to tell your friends that if they like their liver and kidneys , they need to stop doing this.
They aren't actually getting high , because you can't get high on anti-depressants ,they aren't anti-psychotics and they aren't barbituates OR uppers. All they're doing is overworking their livers, kidneys, and possibly hearts. Anything else they claim is merely a placebo effect.
When you HAVE to take anti-depressants on a regular basis , like I do , you are told not to mix them with alcohol or drugs. Mixing anti-depressants with liquor can cause you to go in to a coma , and it can cause liver failure. Your liver is a vital organ. If you screw up your liver you'll have a long wait before you get another one , assuming you CAN get another one. The same goes for your kidneys and heart.
If they continue to do this I would recommend that you tell their parents or a school authority. It's not tattling when you care about someone and don't want them to die.
