I know that the signs of depression can manifest differently in males, especially teenage males. Can you give me a general guideline of symptoms. I am concerned about a 16 year old boy with an alcoholic mother and disconnected(in home) father. The boy is an A student and doesn't get into trouble at school. We have not noticed any major changes in behavior and do not suspect drugs to be a factor at this time. He is mostly withdrawn and seems to have no interest in anything but a computer game.

Dear Brad or Tracy,
Good for you in being concerned about this boy. I would recommend that you look at this site for some information on child and adolescent depression. If you have further questions after you are done reading it let me know. This site that I am giving you is still in design but there is relevant information for you. Would you please check it out and give me feedback?

The site you sent me to had a lot of general information that is important. Unfortunately, I was looking for more specific information I could use to back my belief that the boy I know is depressed. He doesn't fit the stereotypical behavior list, which I believe is a problem with many young people. The site would be very informative to a beginner in the "mental health" arena.
