I'm pretty sure that zoloft does not cause weight gain as one of its side effects but I want to be sure. I'm on zoloft currently.

I have many patients on Zoloft and many gain weight and many lose weight. Some of the SSRI's have been labeled as causing wt. gain more than others, such as Celexa. I find, however that when I tell a patient who is overweight that a medication may help their depression AND help them to lose wt. that it works!! Yes, it does. That same medication when used in a depressed person who has been losing wt. cuz they are not eating due to the depression, will help them to get into a regular eating pattern again. The very best advice I can give you is to exercise 30 minutes at least 4 times a week, aerobically, like walking briskly. No, don't go to the next answer!!! Stay with me! The exercise will help to raise the seratonin level in your brain naturally and help what ever medication you are on and you will lose wt. and sleep better. samarafnp
