I am currently taking an antidepressant that states "May cause weight gain." Does anyone know why this is? Is it because the medication increases your appetite or is it because it does something to your metabolism or is it all having to do with a change in brain chemistry?

Sweetie,
some antidepressants do cause weight gain or loss. Theres nothing wrong with you, you just have depression, which is controlable through meds. There are a few on the market that make you gain weight, but I take zolof, and trazadone, and it hasn't made me gain any weight at all. Is the antidepressant working for you? IF it is causeing a severe waight gain, then I would talk to my Doctor, and see if he could put you on some other meds. Well you may want to just say, what do you suggest I do. I didn't mean you just have depression, that sounded bad. I know exactly what your going through. Right now I'm ok, thank, God. Depression, Is a horrible mental illness. I also have been diagnoised with Bi-Polar, fun fun. By no means stop taking it, until you see your doctor, and see if he recommends something else. I wish you luck, and please keep me posted.
