Can Men Get Depressed?
survivor66 gave this response on 5/7/2000:
Most definately men can get depressed. Women tend to get more attention and it is addressed to women more frequently due to studies claiming women are more at risk for depression than men. However, women may get the focus due to the fact that they tend to seek help faster than some men will. Depressio does does not discriminate between sex, age, or race. If you are having signs of depression including: feelings of hopelessess, sadness, inability to concentrate on simple tasks, little or no enjoyment out of tasks that brought enjoyment previously, loss of appetite or gain in appetite, sleeping to much or not enough, suicidal thoughts, and many more. I urge you to seek help if you feel you are depressed because there are so many effective treatments for depression today. The medications work equally well on men as they do on women. Don't be afraid to go to your doctor for help because depression is a common disease among both genders and help is most certainly availble. Good luck. Survivor66
