Does the weight gain come from eating more or from a slower metabolism?
Thank you.

Hi
I am on anti-dperessive drugs, Prozac and Dothapine being the two main ones. I am also on several other drugs that can cause weight gain too.
It is my experience that depression tends to reduce the appite and the drugs reverse that, to a degree. Unfortunatley many of us find sleeping a problem and so we snack in the night. On top of this the drugs can, and very often do, make us very drowzy and so we nap during the day and become generally less active. Because we eat at the wrong times, gemerally the wrong things, at all the wrong times and then sleep or rest the weight piles on. Of course some of the drugs also cause water retention and this too helps put the weight on.
I have been told that depsite the fact the extra weight is not good for me it would be more of a worry if it were the other way round. It seems that the drugs can cause anerxia(?) (please forgive my spellings) So all in all we are on a lose lose thing.
So to summerise....
I eat at the wrong times. I eat the wrong foods. I rest too much (or am much less active at best) I retain fluids. I am awake for long periods where I comfort eat.
This is my opinion and experience I hope it may help you better understand some possibles.....
Best wishes
Dave (UK)

Wow! Looks like will-power will be needed to retain my "girlish figure" (guffing). Thank you for the reply. I'll print it out and keep it as a handy reminder for myself to watch my behavior when around food.
