I am currently taking an antidepressant that states "May cause weight gain." Does anyone know why this is? Is it because the medication increases your appetite or is it because it does something to your metabolism or is it all having to do with a change in brain chemistry?

Some antidepressants slow your metabolism to make you gain weight, and others increase your appetite to make you gain weight. If this is troublesome to you, talk with your doctor, as there are many antidepressants out there. If one doesn't work, or has side effects, the chances are good that there is another that will work for you that won't have those side effects.
