What percentage of the population has Antisocial Personality Disorder? Who gets APD more, men or women? What is the life expectancy of people with APD? How does someone get APD?
toys999 gave this response on 4/26/2000:
Dear Anonymous,Statistics vary. The range is anywhere between 25% to 80% depending on the source.Statistics can be manipulated to reinforce a theorists belief.Antisocial behavior is more common in males (or at least more frequently diagnosed). An antisocial personality rejects norms and doesnot decipher between right and wrong nor display a conscious about abherrant behavior and actions, such as career criminals and serial rapists and murderers. The life expectancy is not related to APD,although their choice of behavior certainly may shorten it! A person doesnot "get" APD as one does a virus or bacterial infection. The causes are multifaceted and complex, involving environment, early development stages, etc. As any personality disorder, stating with absolute certainty the causes cannot be done.Antisocial personality creates more societal problems and victims than sufferring for those with an antisocial behavior.

In other words, those with APD appear to have an emotional apathy and tend to be narcassistic. Difficult to treat and to deal with.
