Hi Please tell me the problem if you know it why England on the whole don't except D.I.D. Also what are the affects on children brought up by a parent with D.I.D
Thanks

I don't know about England in particular but I know that it is very controversial in the United States. People develop DID due to experiencing trauma so severe that they have repressed the memory. They segment themselves into different parts, often each with separate functions. There is a large group of people that believe that there is no such thing as repressed memory. They believe that false memories are developed by therapists and/or by people wanting attention. There are even psychologists that hold that point of view.
In the United States there is a false memory organization that is vehemently against therapy and therapists. Many parents who have been accused of incest belong to this group. That may be similar in England.
Regarding children. I would say it would depend how functional the person with DID is and how much support is available from other family members. If the person is out of control switching all the time and the child does not have support then the potential for trauma is certainly there. However, if the child knows what is going on, understands it to some degree, and has people there to support and protect him/her then I don't know that there would necessarily be a negative effect. Children are very flexible, adaptable and resilient when their needs are being met.
I suggest you read First Person Plural.
