SENTENCED. JAMES PORTER, 58, former Catholic priest; to 18 to 20 years for sexually assaulting 28 children while serving as a priest 30 years ago; in New Bedford, Massachusetts. At his sentencing, 22 victims described the remarkably similar consequences they suffered as a result of Porter's crimes: substance abuse, depression, difficulty relating to others, joblessness and loss of faith. "How sorry I am to all the people that I have offended," said Porter. He will be eligible for parole in six years.
