His family called in their preacher to pray for him.
Getting there in apparently the nick of time, the preacher saw Fred's condition deteriorate before his eyes; the sick man motioned frantically for something to write on.
The pastor lovingly handed him a pen and a piece of paper, and Fred used his last bit of energy to scribble a note; then he passed on to the Great Beyond.
The preacher thought it best save the note for Fred's family, so he tucked it in his jacket pocket.
And forgot about it.
At the funeral, just as he was finishing the eulogy, he realized that he was wearing the same jacket that he was wearing when Fred died: he remembered the note and said, "You know, Fred handed me a note just before he died. I haven't looked at it, but knowing Fred, I'm sure there's a word of inspiration there for us all."
He opened the note, and read, "Goddammit, you're standing on my oxygen tube!"
