GoddsSmack asked this question on 5/12/2000:
I have a really great summer job, the only thing is that it is at a Christian camp. I am Wiccan. I don't have anything against Christians it's just that I am afraid that my campers will ask me about God and the devil and heaven. Should I give them the generic "God loves you" answer or can go further and talk about other religions with them??

Let me begin by saying BE CAREFUL! While discrimination based on religion is illegal, private organizations like church-based camps can, in fact, fire you if your belief system is called into question.
Chances are, while you won't be fired simply for being Wiccan, you definitely will be for sharing your beliefs. Consider that many Christian sects view Wicca as a cultish, brainwashing religion, (ironic, huh?). Many fundamentalist and born again groups are extremely threatened by Catholics and Jews, not to mention their sentiments for Wiccans.
My advice is this... don't get too into your beliefs with the kids. Instead, try to simply instill in them a respect for all religions. I'm not trying to tell you to suppress your beliefs, but you just need to consider the consequences. And, remember, many Wiccans begin as Christians, so by impressing in them a respect for all religions, you may be setting the best example you can, for the time being.
Many Blessings,
Jessica
