We're told to ask permission from a tree or plant before, say, taking a branch from it for a tool or a spell. I understand that, but...how do you know if you've been *given* permission? Or if permission is denied?

I have done this many times. The spirit of our plant brothers and sisters is in a different state of consciousness than we are. Once you have explained your needs, and expressed a positive use, you will be granted permission. I have never felt that I was denied what I needed. I always leave the plant or tree a gift in return for what I have taken, and expressed a genuine thanks. I hope this answers your question. If you have any more please feel free to ask.
Merry part. (:K
