We're told to ask permission from a tree or plant before, say, taking a branch from it for a tool or a spell. I understand that, but...how do you know if you've been *given* permission? Or if permission is denied?

My understanding is that you are not asking permission from the plant but saying thanks to the plant for its sacrifice. I always include somthing to the effect of what I will use the plant for (ie a protection spell, wand.) Hope that helps.
