Why would you want to be a witch?

Why? I could answer simply and say "Why not?" For me, that answer seems the only one, but only because I was raised as a Witch. My father's family is Russian and many of them practiced a very old, orthodox type of witchcraft. My mother's family was full of herbalists and healers, so it was natural for me to do this. It would be like asking someone "Why would you want to be a Catholic, or a Jew, or a Protestant..." its no different. The media and the movies have put witchcraft in a very bad, unacceptable light and much of what you see on TV or in the movies has nothing to do with what we practice at all. To me, Wicca is a very natural, spiritual religion. It is in tune with the earth and the energies that surround us, much like Native American practices. I find it very soothing to know that when I need to "go to church", all I need to is go outside and breathe.
