I thought you might be able to help me with this one. I recently purchased a 14 ft aluminum john boat that I will use for fishing in small ponds and lakes. It is a used boat which has rivets that may leak. What type of sealer should I use to seal it and which type of paint do you recommend for painting? I live in Central Virginia so my choices are limited. Also, should the sealer be applied before the paint or after? Thanks for your help.

Good Morning David:To see how bad it leaks put boat right side up and fill it about 1/4 with water. If she leaks you will see where and you can mark it w/a china marker.Use a Marine sealant of good quality. If leaks are bad use Marine Tec{spelling}.Put the sealerin and make sure it gets into the cracks. Use a hi quality marine paint that has no lead.Lead will cause electrolysis and damage your boat.Prior to sanding prepare the hull with a light nsanding followed by a strong solution of Mr.Clean,TopJob or some other kind of heavy duty household cleaner. Hope this helps.Good luck & safe boating,icarius31 would appreciate a rating on my reply.Thanks.
