Verrrrry interesting! This answer didn't show up in my AskMe "previous answers," so I had to dig it out of my e-mail sent messages. So here is the answer I had written this morning.
St. John's Wort works best for a MILD depression. It sounds like you have more than that, along with the eating disorder. Why do you want to cut down your dependancy on Zoloft? Are you having side effects that are intolerable? If that's the case, talk with your doctor who should be able to change the dosage or even find a drug that works better for you.
If Zoloft is working well and doing its job for you, don't mess with success! Yes, you will be taking it for awhile but not forever, just until the depression and eating disorder get under control.
Why are you looking for a shrink locally? Is your doctor in general or family practice or is an internist and you believe a shrink would be better? Or is there a traveling problem?
Please find a counselor or therapist near you with whom you can meet at least once a week. This person is the one who will do his/her best to help you find ways for you to cope with depression and overeating so you can eventually stop taking medication. Of course, you will have to meet with a counselor faithfully and work hard on your problems, but you will be so pleased with how things will improve in your life!

I know the above is not what you want to hear, but it's the tried and true method that I know has worked for other people. I want you to get back to business as usual!!
