Hi, and my name is Candace Kurtz. I am a high school student and am very eager to be counselor when I finish high school and college. I've been e-mailing a various amount of people over the past couple of months about job shadows. Jill, if you can give me adresses of clinics, phone numbers, or anything possible, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
Candace

Dear Candace, It would help to know where you are writing from, you see. I live in Australia. It would be difficult to write down clinics for you as I do not know the specific addresses in the US. I need to know what kind of counselor you intent to be, are you talking about a school counselor, drug and alcohol counselor, sexual health counselor, realtionship counselor? or are you going to college to become a psychologist?. The higher the qualification the broader your choice of counseling fields. As you progress through college ask your lecturer about getting some practical experience in the actual workplace. Qualifications are great but additional practical experience serves as a bonus. Perhaps, your lecturer can assist you later on as you learn more about counselling and find you a part time job (minor role) within the counseling environment.
I do have a good friend in Arkansas and in Texas, who are also involved in similar work as me. In Australia we have a work experience programme where kids like you can practice and find out if they are really cut out for the carreer they have chosen. I will contact my friends and see if I can get a list of places for you. I am sorry I was not able to be of more help. But I will speak to my friends. If you can send me you email address I will forward on any informstion I can find for you. :) Jill.
