bogii asked this question on 2/26/2000:
Well it's been 20 short years of wicca. Not long in the life of a planet. Here we are at the dawn of a new age again and still we don't seem to be on the same team. For me Wicca created a window in my heart that allowed all faiths and beliefs in. Yet for other's it creates more questions. How do we as teachers and examples to our fellow wiccan's help eachother deal with all the things to Come? What do you think the future holds for Wicca? What shape and path do you see Wicca taking. What is your part in the future of Wicca?

I'm not sure we (as in Wiccans, as well as other Neo-Pagans) either need or want to be "on the same team."
That doesn't mean we can't work together and cooperate. I'm seeing more of that and less of the "Wand Wars" going on.
Oh, the Wand Wars are still out there, but people are becoming disillusioned with the idea of "power and might" and more interested in responsibility.
I honestly feel that Wicca has lived through its adolescence, and is focusing on its young adulthood right now.
We are raising more and more children in our faith - while still letting them choose and think for themselves. We are more willing to let others walk the paths that are right and correct for them, instead of playing the "THOSE people are evil, and teach negative magick...WE are goodness and light and everything nice - you MUST learn from us".
Where are we going? I think (or at least hope) that we will continue to mature as a religion, and start to come together to create some lasting intra-religious support systems.
Things like:
- Hospitals that not only encourage the physical health of the person through invasive procedures but through herbal and holistic procedures as well as encouraging the spiritual health of the person (whatever their faith)
- Nursing homes and assisted living sites for our Elders that can no longer take care of themselves or for our children who have been born with challenges that are almost too much to bear.
- Charities that give a lift and an education to those who need it. Not just informational services (like those we have now, but who barely or almost never even make enough to cover expenses) but that focus on assisting those less fortunate or who have been through a disaster.
- "Fraternal" societies (such as many Christian sects have formed) for things such as Life Insurance, Health Insurance, and other financial and/or life managment services focused on Wiccans and Neo-Pagans.
We are starting to realize that we are not alone in the world - that there are many many others like us out there. Now that we have been able to start to reach out to each other as a community, we need to band together cooperatively and start to show the rest of the world that we ARE here - and we will not be denied.
Just a few thoughts on my end.
